Senior Program Officer for the Human Rights Inclusion and Empowerment Trust Fund, World Bank

Bjarney works as a Senior Program Officer for the Human Rights Inclusion and Empowerment Trust Fund, World Bank. She is a Human Rights expert with extensive work experience with United Nations Agencies in the field, mostly in the MENA region and the Balkans, including in FCV settings. Additionally, she has worked for a Task Force against Trafficking in Human Beings in the Baltic Sea Region and as the Director of the Icelandic Human Rights Centre. Her main areas of expertise and interest are protection of migrant´s human rights and international labour law and working conditions, in particular protection of workers in vulnerable situations exposed to exploitation and abuse. Bjarney holds a PhD in Law, an LL.M in Public International Law as well as a Master´s degree in International Affairs. She has substantive experience in researching and reporting on human rights issues, as well as teaching and supervising thesis at Master’s level. She is actively involved in a global network on Women, Peace and Security.
